The NSS PERSPECTIVE
Bursar System is a comprehensive automated cashiering solution for colleges
and universities. It is designed to assist the Bursar's office
in attaining its goals of maintaining student accounts, increasing
productivity, and controlling costs.
NSS Corp and Baruch College together developed this custom tailored "point-of-sale" system
which today is used by more then half the colleges that make up
the nation's largest urban university - The
City University of New York.
The relationship between NSS and Baruch proved to be critically
productive. Out of this collaboration came the interface between
the Bursar's automated system and the university's mainframe system.
Student accounts can now be updated in real time. Establishing
another valued relationship, NSS and The College of Staten Island
developed many new and improved features. The College of Staten
Island is currently using a version of NSS Bursar, which enables
each workstation to communicate with the mainframe using TCP/IP
technology. Thus, not only eliminating costly modems, time-plex
devices and phone lines, but adding redundancy to the automated
student payment process. Additional functionality was added by
integrating credit card processing into each transaction. The Bursar
system is able to lookup past credit card transactions and issue
credit towards the selected student's transaction. Currently, NSS
is working with York College to install the latest version of NSS
PERSPECTIVE Bursar. This Windows based version is TCP/IP ready,
includes the credit card set of transactions and works with Crystal
Reports to produce timely and relevant reports used for accurate "head
counts", reconciling monthly credit card statements, and other
data that needs to be presented.
NSS has incorporated all of the features of the NSS
PERSPECTIVE Teller system into the Bursar's "point-of-sale". This
has proven to be a valuable, efficient and secure solution. NSS
PERSPECTIVE Bursar provides two types of transactions: monetary
and control.
Monetary transactions include student registration payments, student
account receivable payments, and student non-registration payments.
Control transactions support functions such as displaying cashier
and Bursar totals, active cashiers, and electronic journal items.
